Hi! Do you sometimes feel that there is so much information to know that it’s like trying to keep a whole bunch of balls in the air. Well, so much for that. Today, I want to talk to you about being "in the know."

Being in the know is so important today, and one way that you can be in the know on topics that are important across our Medical Center is to attend the Medical Center Town Meetings. These meetings are held each month and cover specific topics that impact our Medical Center. Currently, Pete Geier, Dan Like and Mark Conselyea are sharing information about our ambulatory strategy including our new facilities, the Eye and Ear Institute at Gowdy Fields which will house otolaryngology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery, Women’s health services, and ambulatory surgery, and new locations in Gahanna and Lewis Center. If you’d like to learn more, the schedule of meetings can be found on the home page of OneSource. In the coming months, we’ll hold town meetings focused on quality and safety, translational research and ProjectOne. Watch OneSource for information on these meetings and plan to attend one that fits your schedule.

I also want to make sure that you are also in the know about our new vendor interaction policy. This policy goes into effect July 1st.

The policy has been under development for more than a year and has previously been sent out for feedback to faculty and staff members and a number of senior leadership committees prior to being approved by our Medical Center’s Executive Cabinet in March 2009.

The policy addresses gifts, meals, vendor sponsored events, consulting arrangements, promotional materials, samples and conflicts of interest. Our thanks to Dr. Andy Thomas and so many senior leaders who developed this policy. You can find details and examples of how the policy will impact you on OneSource.

Another change that will impact all of us is related to the routes we take around the Medical Center, and it begins this month. To facilitate ProjectOne construction, Means Hall has been closed. Please help our colleagues, patients and visitors make the transition to using new routes in our Medical Center and offer assistance to anyone you might see who needs it.

Finally, please make sure that you are in the know about the upcoming construction on Route 315. Multiple lanes and ramps will be closed through the summer beginning June 15. This may impact your drive to work and it will impact many of our patients and visitors. Please be aware of this and work to help alleviate any confusion or frustration that patients and visitors may have. We have created an updated set of maps and directions and these are posted on OneSource as well as on our external web site. We are working with the University, the city and the Ohio Department of Transportation on signage, promotion and even a special radio station with traffic updates, but it will take all of us providing exceptional service and support to our patients and visitors during this time to make the best of the situation.

One last thing that I’d like all of you to know is that the professionalism and caring that you show is appreciated by our patients, our visitors, your colleagues and our community. My thanks for all you do.

Well, have a great week!
