Family HealthLink

Cancer and coronary heart disease are the two most common diseases in the United States, and each has a significant genetic component. Now you can evaluate your own chances of developing these diseases using a Web-based family health risk assessment tool called Family HealthLink. Developed jointly by Ohio State’s Clinical Cancer Genetics and Medical Genetics programs, this one-of-a-kind interactive program is very user-friendly.

Once you’ve entered your family’s health information, the tool provides a printable risk assessment that can help you, your family and your physician decide if increased screening or genetic testing should be considered.

Is your child being treated for bipolar disorder but still struggling with it? Or does your child take a long-acting stimulant for ADHD, but still has trouble with symptoms? The Ohio State University’s Department of Psychiatry Clinical Research Office is currently looking for patients with these difficulties to enroll in two of its clinical trials. Read on for details of both studies.

Child Bipolar Disorder Study

Is your child or teen being treated for bipolar I disorder and still experiencing symptoms? Your child or teen may qualify to participate in a clinical research study in your area evaluating an investigational medication as a potential add-on treatment for bipolar I disorder in children and teens ages 10-17. Children and teens enrolled in this study may continue on their current prescribed medications. Each participant will receive comprehensive, study-related evaluations and investigational study medication at no cost. Compensation for time and travel may also be provided to those who qualify. To learn more, please contact 1-800-293-5123.

Child ADHD Study

Does your child take a long-acting stimulant for ADHD, but still have trouble with symptoms? And would you consider adding a non-stimulant ADHD medication to their current ADHD treatment? If your answer is YES, your child may be eligible to participate in a study to test the safety and efficacy of an investigational, non-stimulant ADHD medication. Trial medication and office visits will be provided at no cost to participants. The cost of your child's current ADHD medicine will be your responsibility. Compensation may be available for time and travel. To learn more, please contact 1-800-293-5123.
