REHAB SERVICES ONE OF THE TOP PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTRY

Ohio State’s Rehabilitation Services at Dodd Hall were recently recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) as one of the select rehab programs nationwide, meeting the highest standards in quality and safety. The inpatient stroke program at Dodd Hall was the first in Ohio to be awarded CARF accreditation. Dodd’s rehabilitation facility offers one of two CARF-accredited outpatient amputee programs in the country, and is one of only three organizations in the nation accredited for inpatient amputee services.

Committed to Community

OSUMC PROVIDES MORE THAN $144 MILLION IN CHARITY CARE AND OTHER BENEFITS

As an academic medical center, OSU Medical Center is creating a better healthcare future for all by breaking down barriers to quality care, such as access, education, transportation and literacy. We provide uncompensated medical treatment and compassionate care to underserved populations. Our mission, vision and values are the basis for this commitment, which we realize through community education, collaboration with schools and other community organizations, free and reduced-cost clinics and monetary contributions, including subsidized health services. In fiscal year 2008, OSUMC contributed more than $144 million to charity care and other benefits in central Ohio communities.

CLINICAL DECISION UNIT HELPS MONITOR EMERGENCY PATIENTS

Many patients who visit the Emergency Department aren’t necessarily good candidates for admission to the hospital—they are too sick to go home but not sick enough to check in for an extended stay. In response to this special group of patients, The Ohio State University Medical Center has opened a 20-bed Clinical Decision Unit adjacent to the Emergency Department. This new Unit allows staff the time to see a patient’s test results or how he or she is progressing before they decide whether a patient can leave or be admitted into the hospital. Patients have private rooms, receive attention from the Unit’s dedicated 40-person staff and are offered other amenities to make their stay as comfortable as possible.
