WEXNER MEDICAL CENTER CHOSEN TO HELP PILOT NATIONAL INITIATIVE
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital have been chosen among four institutions to pilot the Primary Care Faculty Development Initiative (PCFDI), a national initiative to transform primary care training in family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics. This initiative is one of the first national faculty development projects that bring together three disciplines in a pilot program to advance graduate medical education. The curriculum for the initiative will focus on six key components: leadership, change management, teamwork, population management, clinical microsystems and competency assessment. These components all connect directly to patient centered care from the perspective of a primary care residency and are critical skill areas that have been identified as urgent priorities by policy-makers and faculty within the academic communities of the three primary care disciplines. The other institutions participating include Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, the University of Minnesota and the University of Nebraska.
