Katherine Strafford, MD, is a general obstetrician gynecologist and assistant professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecoloy at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Dr. Strafford is a member of The Ohio State University faculty practice at Stoneridge Women’s Health Center where she sees patients for general obstetric and gynecologic care. She has been listed as a “Best Doctor” by her peers and as a “highest-performing physician” on patient satisfaction surveys.
Born and raised in Gallipolis, Ohio, Dr. Stafford received her medical degree from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Ill. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center/Mount Carmel Health. She served as administrative chief resident.
Dr. Stafford is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the American Medical Association, the Ohio State Medical Association and the Columbus Ob/Gyn Society.
As a faculty member in Ohio State’s College of Medicine, she supervises the Ob/Gyn resident physicians in their outpatient clinic, in labor and delivery and in the operating room performing benign gynecology cases. She lectures to the residents and medical students on various gynecologic and obstetrical topics as well as to students in the College of Public Health and at the Perinatal Resources Comprehensive Board Review Courses where she also gives mock oral exams.
Dr. Strafford mentors third year students during their Ob/Gyn rotation and is an oral examiner for the students. Dr. Strafford works as a Clinical Assessment and Problem Solving (CAPS) facilitator for small groups of second year medical students. She has been the recipient of the CAPS Outstanding Teaching Award. She also works with second year students in skills workshops and in their Introduction to Clinical Medicine course.
Dr. Strafford has published in the Journal of Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Medicine and presented a poster at the Society for Maternal and Fetal Medicine. She has served as a reviewer for the Journal of the American Dental Association. She is currently the site PI for the STAN study of electronic fetal monitoring on labor and delivery and is working on a survey with Nationwide Children’s Hospital regarding breastfeeding practices.
