The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Diabetes Program, which includes the Diabetes Research Center (DRC), is a multi-disciplinary, multi-faceted center dedicated to patient care, education and research with the ultimate goals of curing both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The increasing national recognition of Ohio State’s Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism is contributing to our success. We’ve been recognized repeatedly as among the best in hormonal disorders in U.S. News & World Report.
Ohio State’s Diabetes Program offers comprehensive services for all patients diagnosed with diabetes or pre-diabetic conditions. In addition, our team works closely with other Medical Center specialists since diabetes can impact other health conditions, such as pregnancy or heart disease.
Ohio State’s Diabetes Management Team has a very comprehensive, computerized in- hospital diabetes management program to improve the health of diabetics, as well as reduce the length of stay and complications during your time in the hospital. We believe that this unique approach could improve outcomes both during the hospitalization and even after discharge.
Ohio State also offers specialized treatment of endocrine cancers including thyroid and parathyroid cancers. Our program also includes expert care for patients who have endocrine disorders including energy metabolism and obesity, pituitary diseases, osteoporosis and bone metabolism.
Our faculty and staff are actively involved in education, prevention, early detection and treatment programs related to diabetes. We have also developed specific programs for those at higher risk for diabetes. One recently funded initiative is our Urban Diabetic FITNESS program, which offers social support, education, activity and culturally sensitive dietary training to target those at risk.
