Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein Prize in Cardiovascular Sciences
Background
The Schottenstein Prize in Cardiovascular Sciences, established by a $2 million endowment from Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein to The Ohio State University, will be awarded biennially to an international leader in cardiovascular sciences (including clinical sciences of cardiovascular medicine and cardiothoracic surgery and the basic sciences of molecular and cellular cardiology). The Schottenstein Laureate will receive an honorarium of $100,000.
Eligibility/Award Details
This prestigious prize has been created to provide national and international recognition to a physician or biomedical scientist who has made extraordinary and sustained leadership contributions to improving healthcare; or who has successfully pursued innovative biomedical research with demonstrated translational benefits to patient care. Those honored will be practitioners and/or scientists whose accomplishments and contributions have taken place over a career of dedicated and focused scientific discovery.
Nomination Process

A letter from the nominator describing the primary reasons by which the nominee merits consideration for the prize should be provided. Relevant criteria might include scientific innovation, creativity, leadership, education, dedication, and importance of the nominee’s work to the field of cardiovascular research. Consideration will also be given to the nominee’s role as mentor of young researchers and/or clinicians.
Please provide the following additional information:
A brief one-page biography including previous awards received by the nominee;
On an additional page, a list of six to eight peer-reviewed journal references that support the nomination. DO NOT send reprints.
Supporting letters from up to three additional colleagues familiar with the nominee’s work can be either included with the nomination package or mailed separately.
Submit one copy of a complete curriculum vitae.
Two letters of reference from individuals outside of the nominating institution requested.

Award Ceremony and Reception
The successful recipient will be invited to The Ohio State University Medical Center as a visiting scholar and to celebrate the Award. During the visit, the Award recipient will be expected to give a formal named lecture (the Schottenstein Lecture) and to spend time meeting informally with young faculty, fellows, residents, and students. There will also be an opportunity for individual and small group meetings with members of Ohio State University Medical community and a dinner with Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein.
