About the Director
Stephen P. Smith, Jr, MD is the director of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Ohio State University Medical Center. He is assistant professor with the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, perennially ranked amongst the nation’s premiere departments by US News & World Report.
Dr. Smith is a fourth-generation central Ohio surgeon. He graduated summa cum laude from Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2001, and served as Chapter President of the AOA Medical Honor Society. Following a one-year surgical internship at Mt. Carmel Health in Columbus, Ohio, Smith completed an Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency at Ohio State University College of Medicine where he received the Medical Director's Citizenship Award and twice scored the top mark nationally on the specialty training exam.
During residency, with his undergraduate artistic background, Dr. Smith was drawn to a career in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. In pursuit of these interests, Smith completed a fellowship of The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Latham, N.Y., with Edwin F. Williams, III, MD, an international leader in the field.
Dr. Smith is a Diplomate of The American Board of Otolaryngology and has published articles, chapters, and presented research nationally relating to plastic and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck.
Dr. Smith has been invited to present his research in the field of Facial Plastic Surgery at the 2007 AAFPRS Fall Meeting in Washington, D.C., and has been invited as faculty for the 2008 Winter Symposium on the Latest Advances in Facial Plastic Surgery, in Telluride, Colo.
