Where Medicine Meets the ArtsAt OSU Sports Medicine Center, we treat the dancer as a performing athlete. In addition to being master artists of the body with the ability to evoke emotion from an audience with a simple gesture, the dancer is also one of the sharpest athletes exploding from the stage with gravity defying leaps and mind boggling positions. The physical demands placed on dancers by ambitious and innovative choreographers have begun to push the extremes of what the human body can tolerate. In a study completed on a professional ballet company, 80% of the company experienced one injury or more during a 19 week observation period *. Current research in dance medicine and science supports the need for dancers to receive consistent quality healthcare.
In response to this need, OSU Sports Medicine Center has developed Program for The Performing Arts. Our multidisciplinary clinical team includes: sports certified family practice physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, physical therapists, athletic trainers and a chiropractor. We will work hard together as a team to keep you active with your technical training, rehearsals and performances through dance-specific physical assessments, progressive physical rehabilitation, and innovative treatment strategies. We will respect you as an artist, performing athlete and most importantly a person. To get ahead on the road to recovery with our Program for the Performing Arts, please call 293-3600 to make an appointment. We can get you back on the stage and in the spotlight. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
