About Sports Medicine

You’ve probably seen sports medicine in action many times – from the sidelines as an athlete is treated on the field, or maybe when you’ve had surgery for an injury you suffered during a pick-up game. Both are examples of sports medicine in the form of treatment.

But the field of sports medicine is much broader. It includes the following components:

  • prevention – such as getting a routine physical and following a nutrition plan
  • evaluation – such as an X-ray or psychology consultation
  • management – such as an activity schedule tailored to help manage pain caused by an old injury
  • performance enhancement – such as mental and physical coaching
  • rehabilitation and recovery – such as a program designed to get you back in the game as quickly and safely as possible.
