The Center performs nearly 400 kidney, liver, pancreas, combined kidney/pancreas, lung, heart and bone marrow transplants each year. In 2006, the Center also became the first academic medical center in the state to perform a combined heart-lung transplant. The CTC is a pioneer in creating transplant discoveries through research which become life-saving treatments for our patients. For example, the CTC has recently been approved by the FDA to conduct clinical trials of islet cell transplants, a revolutionary therapy which may offer hope of a cure for Type I Diabetes patients.
