Lung Transplantation

Patients who receive a lung transplantation at Ohio State's Comprehensive Transplant Center (CTC) benefit from our leadership in the field of transplantation. As an academic medical center, the Center participates in clinical trials and research programs that allow our patients access to some of the most leading edge-treatments available anywhere.

For example, we are one of only 17 centers chosen nationwide to participate in the prestigious National Emphysema Treatment Trial. As a result, eligible patients can receive life-saving treatment that is not available at many other hospitals.

Pretransplant Evaluation
The journey to a new lung, and ultimately a renewed life, begins when a patient is referred to the CTC's Lung Transplant Program. Initial screenings ensure that the patient is in an appropriate medical condition and has the motivation and the support to comply with short-term and long-term treatment plans. For more information, please explore the Patient Journey for Lung Transplant patients.
