We encourage patients, both before and after surgery, to attend support groups. Support groups offer patients an opportunity to meet others who have had bariatric surgery as well as learn practical strategies and advice for long-term weight-loss success after surgery.
Support groups meet from 7-8:15 p.m. at:
Davis Medical Clinic
480 Medical Center Drive
1044 Davis Hall (1st Floor) in the Rothermich Room
Signs directing you to this meeting site will be posted.

Support Groups Available
Early Post-Operative Support Group
This group, which meets on the first Wednesday of every month, is dedicated to the needs of our patients who have had surgery six months ago or less. Our “early post-operative” group’s concerns are focused on learning how to eat and beginning exercise.
Late Post-Operative Support Group
This group, which meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month, is dedicated to the needs of those who have had surgery more than six months ago. To better meet the needs of these patients, we are changing the format of this group to a true support group. A support group is when a group of people all sharing a certain problem or concern meet to discuss how they are dealing with it.
Support groups provide emotional support by decreasing a person's sense of isolation and can also provide practical advice, since other members of the group have experience confronting similar challenges. At greater than 6 months from surgery, patients are beginning to face issues concerning “maintaining” their weight loss, keeping up momentum for further weight loss, and/or relationships changing in relation to their new lifestyle. Dr. Douglas Kramer, PsyD, will facilitate these groups. The following topics will be discussed; however, all issues and problems are open for discussion at every meeting.
