Modern Healthcare/National Committee for Quality Health Care Award
The Ohio State University Medical Center was one of three healthcare systems in the U.S. recognized for this award for its demonstrated success in delivering quality care, demonstrating leadership, ability to measure outcomes, financial management and a commitment to community health needs.

JCAHO Accreditation
University Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). JCAHO accreditation is based upon meeting specific national standards for patient care, staffing, equipment and facility safety requirements. Teams of JCAHO surveyors arrive unannounced in approximately three-year intervals to inspect each hospital in the U.S.

America's Best Hospitals
The Ohio State University Medical Center stands out as a top Ohio health-care organization, with eight medical specialties named as among the best in the country in the latest U.S. News & World Report magazine. This is the 16th consecutive year the magazine has named Ohio State’s Medical Center one of “America’s Best Hospitals.” Ohio State is recognized as a leader in cancer care, ear, nose & throat, gynecology, kidney disease, orthopedics, respiratory disorders, rehabilitation and endocrinology.

Parkinson's Disease National Center of Excellence
The OSU Department of Neurology has been designated a Center of Excellence by the National Parkinson Foundation, one of only 30 such centers in the world. The Center is dedicated to isolating the cause and providing measures for the prevention of Parkinson's disease.

Academy for Healthcare Quality Partner
The Ohio State University and three other universities have been chosen by the Association of American Medial Colleges to develop an Academy for Healthcare Quality whose mission is to improve the quality of healthcare by offering curricula on quality evaluation, quality management and quality improvement.

Heart Center Leads the Way
OSU researchers are world renowned for having advanced the use of catheterization, pacemaker technology and the management of heart conditions through medication. We're home to the OSU Dorothy M. Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute and the OSU Ross Heart Hospital, one of the few freestanding heart hospitals in the country. Our cardiothoracic surgery program offers the full range of state-of-the-art heart procedures, including minimally invasive and robotic assisted.

Leader in Organ Transplantation
OSU Medical Center’s organ transplant program is one of the top in the United States and the only one of its kind in central Ohio. The program performs kidney, pancreas, kidney-pancreas, liver, heart, lung and blood and marrow transplants.

Medicare Heart Bypass Center
OSU Medical Center is the only hospital in Ohio and one of the first four hospitals in the United States selected as a Medicare Participating Heart Bypass Center by the Health Care Finance Administration, now called The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This innovative pilot project is designed to assure quality care while reducing coronary artery bypass costs nationwide. The study evaluates both cost and clinical outcomes to assess the cost-benefit ratio of certain procedures.

Research Grants Exceed $185 Million
The Ohio State University Medical Center is one of the nation’s preeminent biomedical research centers, and it continues to grow at a rapid pace. Our investigators hold more than $185 million in internal and external research funding – a symbol of our mission of creating the future of medicine to improve people’s lives.

OSU Designated National Center of Excellence for Women
OSU Medical Center has been named a National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to act as a national model for improving the health and healthcare of American women.

OSU College of Medicine among Top Med Schools
OSU Medical Center is affiliated with Ohio State's College of Medicine which was recently ranked 30th in the 2009 U.S. News & World ReportAmerica’s Best Graduate Schools." In addition, Ohio State's College of Medicine ranked 13th among public institutions.

Emergency Medicine National Center of Excellence
The OSUMC Department of Emergency Medicine has been named a Center of Excellence by the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Health System Recognized as Technology Leader
OSU Medical Center is the only central Ohio hospital named to the American Hospital Association's "Most Wired" hospitals and health care systems list for nine consecutive years.  Recognition is given for the use of computer technology to improve patient care and safety. 

Extensive Laboratory Services
OSU Medical Center’s laboratory services provide an extensive array of tests (more than 400) ranging from routine chemistry and hematology to molecular pathology, toxicology, cytogenetics, high risk prenatal testing, specialized coagulation and microbiology procedures. Through University Reference Laboratories, Inc., the labs offer these testing services to corporate and clinical clients along with seven-day-a-week client service and remote results reporting along with a full-service courier for pick up and delivery of specimens for clinical and corporate clients. OSU Medical Center’s laboratory services are nationally accredited by the College of American Pathologists.

Dodd Hall Rehabilitation Services Lead Nation
OSU Medical Center’s Dodd Hall is consistently ranked as one of the top rehabilitation facilities in the country according to annual surveys by U.S. News & World Report. Dodd Hall is a comprehensive inpatient acute rehabilitation service accredited by the Commission of the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The program consistently rates above the national average for functional gains in mobility and independence, which reduces the need for costly long-term care.

OSU Designated Level 1 Trauma Center
The American College of Surgeons has designated OSU Medical Center a Level I regional trauma center. Accreditation is based on having the ability to provide total care for every aspect of injury and capabilities in cardiopulmonary bypass, nuclear scanning, neuroradiology and a leadership role in education, research and patient care. OSU Medical Center has on-site physicians in more than 40 specialties, including an intensivist (board-certified physician in critical care medicine) who is on-site 24 hours a day.
