During Your Stay

Our doctors, patient care and support staff strive to make your stay in our hospitals as comfortable as possible. Learn more about some of the services we offer and things to consider during your stay: 

Caring Bridge

Caring Bridge enables you to stay connected with family, friends and colleagues before, during and after your hospital stay. This free website allows you to update everyone all at once, collect supporting messages and share photos. Learn more about Caring Bridge.

Internet Access

Free  Internet access is available in all patient care areas of the Medical Center. Your computer must be configured for wireless.

To access the Internet:
• Select OSUMC Guest Internet
• Open your Web browser and you will be presented with a usage disclaimer; if you agree to the usage terms and conditions click on the "Agree" button. 

If you are unable to access the network, you may call Customer/Guest Services between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays:

• OSUCCC–James Guest Services at 614-293-8609

Mail/Flower Delivery


Medical Center volunteers deliver patient mail every morning.

Delivery schedule:


• University Hospital
• OSUCCC – James
• Ross Heart Hospital
• OSU Harding Hospital

- Weekdays before 4 p.m. Flowers are delivered by volunteers.
 - Saturday and Sunday – Florists will deliver directly to patient room.


• University Hospital East
- Florists will deliver directly to patient room.



Please note the following restrictions:

Intensive Care and OSUCCC – James – We do not permit live plants or cut flowers to be delivered to patients in intensive care and OSUCCC – James due to the special environment and care of our patients.

Only mylar balloons are  permitted in Medical Center buildings due to latex allergy concerns.

Nutrition Services staff are committed to providing you with high quality care. Throughout your stay, Nutrition Services staff will communicate with you about your concerns and offer additional food suggestions based on your needs.
Patient meals are served during the following hours:
     Breakfast     7:45 a.m.–9:15 a.m.
     Lunch          11:45 a.m.–1:15 a.m.
     Dinner          4:45 p.m.–6 p.m.

Late food service is available for meals after dinner hours until 11:30 p.m. Please contact your nurse to use this service. Many snack and beverage selections are also available on your patient care unit for between meals.


University Hospital East


Meals are served to patients during the following hours:
      Breakfast    7:30 a.m.–9 a.m.
      Lunch         11:45 a.m.–1:15 p.m.
      Dinner         4:45 p.m.–6 p.m.


Patient meal service exact times can vary by patient unit.


Partner in Your Care

During your stay, we want you and your family to be involved in your care. One important way that you can be involved is to speak up. Ask questions, voice your concerns and don't be afraid to raise any issues relating to your care, treatment or services. View this short video about the important role you play in your care​. While you are in the hospital, many people will enter your room including doctors, nurses and other hospital staff. Don't be afraid to:

  • Ask for the ID of everyone who comes into your room.
  • Speak up if hospital staff don't ask to check your ID
  • Ask if the person has washed his/her hands before touching you.
  • If you are told you need certain tests or procedures, ask why you need them, when they will happen and how long it will be before you get the results.
