The Emergency Department at University Hospital provides comprehensive emergency services, including Level I trauma care round-the-clock, seven days a week. This Level I distinction authorizes us to provide treatment to the most critically injured trauma patients.
Staffed by board-certified attending staff and emergency medicine specialty residents, the department offers expert care for emergency conditions. The emergency staff is backed up by in-house specialists in all of the disciplines required for comprehensive emergency care.
Some of our specialized services include the care of major trauma, acute cardiac conditions and burns. Specialized facilities located in the emergency department include trauma resuscitation suites, CT scanner and hyperbaric medicine chamber. Helicopters provide advanced emergency care and rapid aeromedical transport to our facility.
To expedite service in the Emergency Department, patients are evaluated upon arrival for the type of care and/or intensity of service necessary. The patient will then be directed to the appropriate treatment area of the Emergency Department based on that assessment.
The level of service provided will determine the co-pay amount, not the treatment area in which the patient was seen. Please refer to your Benefit Manual or call the phone number on the back of your insurance card for specifics relative to Emergency Department benefits and co-pays.
