Ohio State Faculty Elected to Professional Leadership Posts

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two faculty members in Ohio State University’s College of Medicine have been elected to leadership posts within the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Mary Fristad (43085), director of research and psychological services for the division of child and adolescent psychiatry at Ohio State University Medical Center, has been named president-elect of the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. Fristad, also professor of psychiatry and psychology, is an expert in bipolar disorder and other mood disorders in children and adolescents. She is coauthor of the book “Raising a Moody Child: How to Cope with Depression and Bipolar Disorder.”
Dr. Kathleen Lemanek (43209), an associate professor of clinical pediatrics at Ohio State who practices at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, has been named president-elect of the Society of Pediatric Psychology. Her research focuses on pain management, adherence to medical regimens and coping with chronic illnesses. At Children’s, she provides clinical services to the sections of pulmonary medicine, the comprehensive sickle cell disease program and the
pediatric intensive care unit.
Fristad and Lemanek were elected to three-year terms: They will become president-elect of their respective divisions in January 2008 and will assume presidencies of their divisions in January 2009. Each will follow her presidency by serving one year as past president.
