Ohio State Physician Elected President of Association

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Dr. John Mastronarde (43201), a pulmonologist at The Ohio State University Medical Center and director of its asthma center, has been named president of the Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors.

Mastronarde will be responsible for communication with program directors around the country who train pulmonologists and critical care medicine specialists. He will also monitor and respond to developments in training, accreditation, credentialing, manpower, financing, and other issues affecting programs in pulmonary and/or critical care medicine.

He is currently chair of the training committee of the American Thoracic Society and reviews the society’s activities and policies related to training in pulmonary, critical care and sleep disorders. He makes recommendations for growth and improvement and annually evaluates the role of fellows on the society’s various committees.

Mastronarde is an asthma expert on NetWellness, an educational service co-sponsored by Ohio State that provides medical and health information to consumers via the Web.

He also specializes in exercise-induced asthma in competitive and recreational athletes, and pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies for asthma. He is board certified in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and sleep medicine.

Mastronarde directs the pulmonary and critical care fellowship program at Ohio State’s Medical Center and is director of the clinical trials office in the division of pulmonary, allergy, critical care and sleep medicine.
