Ohio State Celebrates National Medical Research Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In conjunction with a national campaign focusing on funding and support for research, leaders at the Ohio State University Medical Center are hosting an event honoring those who are translating research from the bench to the bedside.

A reception will be held in observance of National Medical Research Day, initiated by ResearchMeansHope.org and the Association of American Medical Colleges, TOMORROW (10/21) from 4 – 6 p.m. at Ohio State’s Biomedical Research Tower, located at 460 W. 12th Avenue.

Reporters and videographers are invited to attend the celebration. Opportunities for interviews, lab tours and additional b-roll will be available.

Invited guests who will offer remarks of appreciation for researchers at the Medical Center include Eric Fingerhut, chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents; Carol Whitacre, vice president of research at Ohio State; Dr. Steven Gabbe, senior vice president for health sciences and CEO of OSU Medical Center; Dr. Chip Souba, dean of Ohio State’s College of Medicine; Dr. Clay Marsh, vice dean of research for Ohio State’s College of Medicine; and Dr. Rebecca Jackson, director of Ohio State’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science.

ResearchMeansHope.org is a coalition of concerned patients, as well as physicians and researchers of America’s medical schools, teaching hospitals, universities, research companies and organizations with a goal to ensure sustained growth in federal support for medical research through funding by the National Institutes of Health.
