Congratulations to Nicholas Kesserling, one of the patient care associates serving 8 Brain and Spine, for being nominated and selected as one of this quarter's BUCK-I Award winners!

The Bringing the Utmost Care and Kindness to Individual patients (BUCK-I) Award recognizes Health System ancillary nursing staff (non-RNs who report to a nurse manager) for extraordinary acts of compassionate care they demonstrate in their work with patients. Winners of this award are known for exemplifying the mission, vision and values of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and truly making a connection with the patient and family through trust and emotional support, often going above and beyond the call of duty.

"I witnessed Nick caring for a patient whom was mentally challenged and here as a result of adult neglect. I saw Nick caring for her on her 21st birthday. He was very concerned that she would be sad because she was in the hospital on her birthday, so he went above and beyond to bring her joy. He was dancing and singing with her, watching TV, laughing and joking with her. He and the staff of 8 BSH have really gone above and beyond to make her stay here a little less sad. However, seeing this 6'3", muscular man wearing a unicorn headband just to make her happy was truly extraordinary." - Kristi Bulkowski, Nursing Education
