Congratulations to Ramdiel Martinez, one of the patient care associates serving 8PCU (Progressive Care Unit), for being nominated and selected as one of the very first three recipients of the BUCK-I Award!

The Bringing the Utmost Care and Kindness to Individual patients (BUCK-I) Award recognizes Health System ancillary nursing staff (non-RNs who report to a nurse manager) for extraordinary acts of compassionate care they demonstrate in their work with patients. Winners of this award are known for exemplifying the mission, vision and values of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and truly making a connection with the patient and family through trust and emotional support, often going above and beyond the call of duty.

"Ramdiel is a PCA who truly cares about his work. Not only does he provide excellent patient care, but he also takes time to get to know his patients and finds common ground to relate to each of his patients, making their experience more personalized. Ramdiel is a musician and is passionate about playing the guitar. He was assigned a blind patient who was once a pianist. The two bonded over their fondness for music, which brought the patient joy as the two discussed their passion throughout their time together. On one of his days off, Ramdiel decided to come into work to play his guitar for the patient. The patient listened to Ramdiel's performance with a great smile and even pretended he was playing the piano along with the beat. The two played music and talked for two hours. Ramdiel was able to turn another day at the hospital into a memorable and special day for this patient. This is the intention that he sets forth every day at work and is an inspiration to those around him." -Karissa Barley, BSN, RN, 8PCU
